Advocating the use of social media in the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today appealed to party workers from Vidarbha region to gear up for the challenge and focus on micro-management of polling booths.
"Though the Congress government of Rajiv Gandhi had been credited with bringing mobile and computer technology, Congress has fallen short of social media. But during the (upcoming) Assembly polls, Congress will not lag behind in using it to ensure proper planning for voting and will engage a majority of youth voters with Congress," Chavan said here.
He was addressing a rally of regional party workers as part of the preparations for polls due later this year.
"Vidarbha region has always stood solidly behind Congress in its bad days," Chavan said recalling the 1977 debacle under the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
He said that the incumbent Congress-NCP government has undertaken a number of developmental projects for the benefit of people of Vidarbha.
"The steps are taken to complete the Gosikhurd irrigation project, (resolve) minor forest issues, (towards development of) a world class zoo at Gorewada in Nagpur and Tiger capital city," he added.
Chavan said that the new Textile policy will bring investment to the tune of Rs 40,000 crore and generate employment potential for 10 lakh persons.
"As many as 27 'MoUs' were signed during the Advantage Vidarbha investment summit last year and investments were on their way to Vidarbha," the Chief Minister said.
Senior party leaders, including Social Justice Minister Shivajirao Moghe, EGS Minister and Nagpur district guardian minister Nitin Raut, Cultural Minister Sanjay Deotale, former MPs Vilas Muttemwar, Mukul Wasnik were present on the occasion.
