Two terrorists of Pakistan-based militant outfits were today arrested by the Punjab police, which claimed to have averted major terror strikes in the country.
The terror module, funded and co-ordinated from Spain and United Kingdom, was a "joint conspiracy" of two Pakistan-based terrorist outfits-- Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF)-- to carry out attacks, police said.
"The two terrorist outfits had decided to combine their resources and operatives to launch a terrorist attack in the near future," a senior police official said.
Harpreet Singh alias Harmeet Singh alias Pintu, resident of Simbal Camp, Jammu and Karanjit Singh alias Pamma, resident of Basti Gobind Puri, Jammu have been arrested, an official statement quoting Jalandhar Zone Inspector General of Police Nirmal Singh Dhillon, said here.
He claimed that the module was being controlled by Ranjit Singh Neeta, chief of KZF and Harminder Singh Mintu, chief of KLF and funded and co-ordinated by terrorist elements based in Spain and the UK.
Probe revealed that Pintu is a Pakistan-trained KZF terrorist who had obtained arms training in Pakistan in 1997 and had developed closed links with Harminder Singh alias Mintu as well.
He said that investigations have also revealed that the terrorist module was being funded by operatives based in Spain and the UK who were sending funds through Money Gram and Hawala.
