Chidambaram will be the chief guest at the meeting aimed to boost regional cooperation and to be attended by Chief Ministers of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan, official sources said.
Union Territory Chandigarh, which is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, will be represented by its Administrator.
Inter-state issues including agriculture, infrastructure, water issues between Punjab and Haryana, balanced development in the region, tax issues, better information sharing between the states to help curb crimes, etc., are likely to figure in the meeting hosted by Punjab after seven years, the sources said.
Chidambaram along with Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal are also scheduled to address a news conference at the end of the meeting, they added.
