A children's NGO today expressed shock over the death of 22 children due to food poisoning in Bihar's Saran district and suggested stringent quality monitoring system and close vigilance on basic hygiene norms.
"Stringent quality monitoring system and close vigilance of basic hygienic norms could have avoided this kind of tragic incident and ensured quality of the food served," manager of Child Rights and You, Saradindu Bandyopadhyay said here.
"We mince no words to condemn the incident as it once again proves that standards of services offered to children are far below expectation," he said.
He also expressed concern that while the midday meal scheme was introduced with the intention of attracting children to school, such tragedies might hamper the goal.
