Chowrasia, who shot 71 in the first round, is now seven-under 137 for two rounds but three shots behind leader, Chinese Taipei's Lin Wen-tang (64), USD $750,000 event.
Anirban Lahiri added a 69 to his first round 70 and at five-under 139 he was tied ninth. Jyoti Randhawa (72-68), Rashid Khan (70-70) and Rahil Gangjee (70-70) were tied 16th, while Sujjan Singh (68-74), the best Indian on day one, was now tied 30th. Also making the cut were Arjun Atwal (70-74) in tied 46th place. Digvijay Singh (73-78) and Chiragh Kumar (77-77) missed the cut while Himmat Rai (73 and four-over through 15) was also likely to miss out.
"I am playing at least two good rounds each week and often when I am hitting well I am not putting as well. When the putter does work, the scores show. Hopefully I can get together four good rounds and be in contention on Sunday," said Chowrasia, a two-time winner of co-sanctioned events with Europe.
Lahiri, three time winner on Asian Tour, had four birdies and one bogey.
Up on top, Lin took advantage of a well-rested break and fired a sparkling eight-under-par 64 to take the second round clubhouse lead.
Australian rookie Cameron Smith continued to impress in what is only his second start on the Asian Tour by carding a 67 to trail Lin by one while a grieving Nicholas Fung of Malaysia held back his emotions and battled to a 69 to share third place with Thailand's Chapchai Nirat.
