Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) was started in the field of essential medicines in India in late 2012.
The primary goal of the initiative is to reduce the number of children dying from diarrhoea by increasing access to treatment.
Under CHAI, works are done with the government and local partners to increase access to the WHO-recommended treatment for diarrhoea.
According to CHAI, diarrhoea is one of the leading killers of children under five years of age in India, taking lives of over 2.12 lakh of them each year. Of this, 60,000 are in UP.
