The CPI(M) today supported Election Commission on transfer of a DM and five SPs in West Bengal and said only Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should be held responsible if any constitutional crisis arises because of her refusal to carry out the order of poll panel.

CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose said that the decision to transfer the SPs had been taken based on the ground report.

"There is no law and order in the state. They (EC) are absolutely right. What the CM has said is beyond her jurisdiction. If there is a constitutional crisis then the Chief Minister will be responsible for it," Bose said while addressing the media.

Bose, however, quipped, "a day after the outburst, it seems the temper today is a bit low. Let's see what happens next." The EC yesterday ordered removal of a District Magistrate and five Superintendents of Police from poll duties.

The chief minister openly defied the EC by refusing to carry out its order to move out the officials from poll duty and said she was prepared to be arrested for this.

According to official sources, chief secretary Sanjoy Mitra had written to the poll panel urging it to reconsider its decision regarding transfer of a DM and five SPs.
