The organisations also submitted a memorandum to the Lakhimpur district Deputy Commissioner demanding immediate halt of the construction work at Gogamukh by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation and release of five KMSS workers arrested on October 8.
The protesters asserted that the NHPC and the central government again restarted the construction works stopped earlier without a proper solution based on an expert committee report adversely affecting the people in the downstream areas.
Hazarika also alleged on October 8 some miscreants had burnt a truck loaded with construction materials at Gerukamukh and "five KMSS workers were arrested without any basis and one of them tortured in police custody."
Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Brajenjit Singha, however, said the five accused were arrested on the basis of evidence.
