Biting cold wave conditions made a come back in Himachal Pradesh as tribal areas and high mountain reaches received fresh spell of snowfall while rains lashed mid and lower hills.
The high altitude areas of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti and Pangi, Rohtang, Kunzam and Saach passes and sprawling Dhauladhar and Churdhar ranges in Kangra and Sirmaur districts received snow, reviving cold wave conditions in adjoining valleys.
Over 40 cm of snow was recorded at Keylong while Raohtang recorded 140 cm of fresh snow, followed by Koksar 75 cm, Udaipur and Mari 30 cm each.
The key tourist areas of Manali and Narkanda, Sarahan, Khara Patthar and Dodra Kwar in Shimla district received moderate snowfall while upper areas of Shimla town and Kufri experinced mild snowfall.
Intermittent heavy rains lashed the region causing sharp fall in night temperature, which dropped to 4 deg in Shimla and 2.1 deg in Manali.
The maximum temperature also dipped to 7.1 deg in Shimla and 4.6 deg at Kalpa while Una was hottest with a high of 25 deg, followed by Nahan 21.3 deg, Solan 19.5 deg, Dharamsala 18.2 deg, Sundernagar 12.9 deg, Bhuntar 12.5 deg, 8 to 15 deg below normal.
Una was also hottest during the night with minimum temperature at 14 deg while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a low of 11.4 deg, followed by Palampur, Solan and Nahan 7.8 deg, 3 deg below normal.
Entire Lahaul valley remained without electricity and water supply while vehicular traffic came to a halt within the tribal valleys, virtually paralysing normal life.
The district administration has warned the people not to venture out of their houses due to avalanche threat.
The 144-km long Tandi-Sansari nallah road connecting Jammu and Kashmir, which was opened for vehicular traffic on March 7, has been closed again and the target to open the Rohtang pass by April 15 has been extended for indefinite period due to fresh snowfall," BRO Commender, Yogesh Nair said.
The local MeT office has warned of thundersquall or thunderstorm at isolated places and rains and snow at many places in the region.
