Cold wave continues in high altitude tribal areas of HP

Piercing cold wave conditions continued in high altitude tribal areas and other higher hills while cold wave abated to some extent in lower and mid hills as day temperatures rose by few notches and weather remained dry in the region.
Mercury rose to minus 3.1 degrees in Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district while Manaliand Kalpa recorded a low of minus 0.8 degree and 0.4 degree Celsius.
Una in Shivalik foothills recorded minimum temperature at 0.9 degree, while Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded minimum temperature at 3.5 degrees and 4 degrees, followed by Dharamsala 5.2 degrees, Solan 6.5 degrees and Nahan 7.7 degrees Celsius.
Unawas hottest during the day with maximum temperature rising by three degrees to 24.5 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagar, Solan and Bhuntar were warmer with a high of 23.8 degrees, 23 degrees and 21.5 degrees, followed by Nahan 18.3 degrees, Shimla 16.1 degrees, Manali 14 degrees, Kalpa13.2 degrees and Dharamshala12.8 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region for six days from December 28 to January 2 next year.
A fresh feeble western disturbance as an upper air system would affect western Himalayan region from December 31.
Theforecast of dry weather has come as a disappointment for thousands of tourists who have thronged Shimla to celebrate the New Year and enjoy snowfall.
All hotels in the main town are packed to capacity.
