Cold wave today intensified in most parts of Punjab and Haryana where normal life was disrupted due to dense fog even as several areas in the region recorded minimum temperature above normal level.
Thick blanket of fog disrupted air, rail and road traffic in both the states and power supply was affected in some areas of the region, officials said.
Dense fog in the morning at several places including Ambala, Hisar, Narnaul, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Jalandhar and Amritsar reduced visibility and affected normal life.
In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Narnaul was the coldest place with a low of 3.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, MeT officials said.
While Amritsar settled at a low of 4.4 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature at Hisar was 6.8 degrees Celsius, both one notch above normal.
Among other places, Chandigarh had a low of 7.5 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal, followed by Ambala 8.4 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 8.7 degrees Celsius both two notches above normal, and Patiala 9 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.
According to a MeT forecast, dry weather with foggy conditions will prevail in several places in the region during the next 48 hours.
