Collectors conduct inspection to tackle dengue in TN

Several District Collectors today conducted inspections in their respective regions as part of measures to halt the spread of dengue.
They ordered levy of fines to those who dump material like tyres that aid spread of the vector borne disease.
Villupram Collector L Subramanian inspected areas under Villupuram Municipality, an official release said.
He ordered seizure of a concrete mixer machine since it had larva which leads to the spread of the vector borne disease and a fine of Rs 10,000 was slapped on the owner.
Subramanian also inspected several villages, including Kayathur, Panayapuram, and Pappanappattu under the Vikravandi Panchayat Union, the release said.

A fine was levied on a man who had stored old tractor tyres, since it had larva in it.

Collectors of other districts, including Vellore (S A Raman), Tiruvallur (E Sundaravalli) and Tirunelveli (Sandeep Nanduri) did similar inspections today.
The Collectors ordred notice to those who dump garbage in open plots and in case of further violation, a fine.
The top district authorities were accompanied by health and sanitation officials who checked if larva was present in water sources by using a scoop. They inspected houses, shops, school buildings to check the presence of larva.
They also instructed local officials, including Block Development Officers, to ensure clean environs so that dengue does not spread.

Awareness camps on dengue (how it spreads and steps to be taken in case of any fever) and distribution of Nilavembu Kudineer, a traditional concoction of neem was also done in the districts.
