In a press release issued here today said SCR General Manager P K Srivastava reviewed the progress of work on eliminating unmanned railway level crossings in his territory.
"A Joint Enquiry Committee consisting of three senior officers has been constituted by the railway administration to enquire into the yesterday's accident at unmanned level crossings at Masaipet in Medak District.
The general manager stressed the urgent need to speed up works related to removal of unmanned crossings. He specifically focused on crossings where infrastructure has already been made ready or nearing completion and issued clear directions to officials that manning of these unmanned crossings should be completed within a week's time, it said.
"Works on fixing gate barriers and other requisite apparatus have already been undertaken at unmanned level crossing number 233 near Masaipet, which is the accident site. Work will be complete and the gate will be manned within a week," the release said.
