The father of a newborn, who died after an ambulance carrying the baby got stuck in a traffic jam allegedly caused by a rally of the state Congress unit, has lodged a complaint at the Kundli police station.
The child died at the PGIMS, Rohtak, on Wednesday after the ambulance was allegedly stuck for over 30 minutes during a cycle rally of Haryana Pradesh Congress chief Ashok Tanwar in Sonipat district.
The baby's father, Jitendra, lodged a complaint yesterday, the police said.
Police station in-charge Bir Singh said Jitendra did not name anyone in the complaint.
In his complaint, Jitendra has alleged that the ambulance was not equipped with oxygen facilities. He wanted to take his son to the hospital at the earliest, but could not do so due to the jam, Singh added.
Whoever is responsible for the jam, strict action will be taken against them, he said, adding that an investigation is underway.
Additional superintendent of police Rajiv Deshwal said he will be leading a special investigation team (SIT) that has been constituted for a probe into the matter.
A case has been filed under section 304A (causing death by rash or negligent act) of the IPC and section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Sonepat CMO Dr Jaswant Punia said the baby was born premature at seven months due to which his internal organs were not fully developed.
The baby was alive when he reached the civil hospital here. He was administered oxygen and referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, where he died during treatment.
