Concern was voiced in the Lok Sabha today over the pollution in Delhi with a Congress member seeking urgent measures to check the situation remarking that the national capital is being regarded as the "most polluted city in the world".
Raising the issue in zero hour, Mullappally Ramachandran said that such a situation was a disaster for the local people and tough steps needed to be taken to tackle the issue so that it does not affect their health and happiness.
He was supported by B Vinod Kumar of TRS.
Reports had it that India's top pollution monitoring body, the Central Pollution Control Board, has said in a report that Delhi has the most polluted air among 16 cities in the National Capital Region.
However, all cities in the NCR exceed the national permissible standards for the crucial pollutant, particulate matter, according to the CPCB.
Delhi has the dubious distinction of topping the charts with the highest levels of nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, benzene and carbon monoxide.
