BJP workers today sought to disrupt a function attended by Delhi Health Minister A K Walia, leading to clashes between Congress and the opposition supporters here which left some people injured.
The incident took place at Karkari area where Walia laid the foundation stone of widening of an existing bridge.
Before Walia and East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit arrived at the venue, a group of BJP workers reached there and started raising anti-government slogans.
They also waved black flags, following which agitated Congress workers confronted them, which resulted in clashes between the two groups.
They hurled chairs at each other and resorted to physical assault.
When Walia and Dikshit arrived, the BJP supporters showed black flag to them and shouted slogans accusing Delhi government of total failure in every front.
Dikshit criticised police accusing it of failing to make proper arrangement for the event.
"Police have failed to ensure proper arrangement for the event. We are unhappy with police," Dikshit said.
Dikshit also approached police seeking action against trouble-makers.
Walia also slammed police saying they should have made adequate arrangement for the event.
"As police were informed about the event, they should have ensured proper security. The police have failed to perform their duty," he said.
A source close to Walia said an appoinment with Home Minister SushilKumar Shinde will be sought to inform him about the incident as well as about police "inaction".
