Apparently learning lessons from the poll debacle in Assam, Congress has convened a meeting of top party leaders from Uttarakhand, including Chief Minister Harish Rawat and PCC President Kishore Upadhyay, to stem infighting.
Besides Rawat and Upadhyay, senior state leaders will attend the meeting on Wednesday, in which key organisational matters will be taken with a focus on ending infighting in the party ranks.
AICC general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Uttarakhand Ambika Soni said she has convened the coordination meeting with the state leaders to take stock of preparations for the Assembly election scheduled for next year.
If possible, the state leaders may also meet Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
Party sources said Upadhyay has been at loggerheads with the chief minister after he was denied nomination for the Rajya Sabha election.
The Congress government in the state has witnessed political turmoil earlier this year after 10 Congress MLAs rebelled against the party and joined BJP.
In Assam, the failure to patch up differences between the then Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his detractor Himanta Biswa Sarma had cost the party dearly in the Assembly poll earlier this year.
