Cong govt sets up SIT to probe C'garh civil supplies scam

The Congress government in Chhattisgarh Tuesday set up a 12-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IPS officer SRP Kalluri to probe an alleged multi-crore scam in the state's Civil Supply Corporation unearthed in 2015, an official said.

The SIT was constituted on Tuesday and Inspector General of Police (Economic Offences Wing and Anti Corruption Bureau) SRP Kalluri will head it, the official told PTI.

Superintendent of Police Narayanpur Indira Kalyan Elesela, Additional SP Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Manoj Khilari, ASP Jashpur Uneja Khatun Ansari, Deputy SP in EOW Vishwas Chandrakar and Deputy SP EOW Anil Bakshi will be part of the SIT, he said.

Other members comprise Inspector Crime Investigation Department (CID) LS Kashyap, Inspector ACB Brajesh Tiwari, Inspector ACB Ramakant Sahu, Inspector Motilal Patel, Inspector EOW Farhan Qureshi and retired legal expert NN Chaturvedi, he said.

The alleged scam was exposed in February, 2015 when ACB and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) conducted simultaneous raids at 25 premises of the Civil Supplies Corporation and its officials.

Later, the ACB made 18 people, including two Indian Administrative Service (IAS)officers, Anil Tuteja and Alok Shukla, accused in the case.

The Congress had earlier alleged that then Chief Minister Raman Singh, his wife and other high profile people were named as beneficiaries in the diary which was recovered during the raid, a charge refuted continually by the BJP leadership.

Congress also claimed that the civil supply scam was of about Rs 36,000 crore.

Kalluri, a 1994-batch IPS officer, had served as IG of Bastar Range from June 2014 to February 2017.

He had faced criticism for alleged fake encounters and targeting local journalists, social and human rights activists, a charge denied by police authorities.

In February, 2017 Kalluri was moved out of Bastar and transferred to Police Headquarters Raipur.
