Rejecting the Rs 2,000 crore flood rehabilitation package announced today the Jammu and Kashmir government, the Congress termed it as half-baked and accused the coalition government of ignoring the affected people.
"It is a cruel joke and an insult to the flood-affected people of the state," Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief G A Mir said.
The JKPCC chief termed it as a "half-baked" relief package and said the PDP-led coalition government had betrayed the people of the state for the sake of coming into power.
He alleged that the claims made by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed regarding rehabilitation of those affected in the September 2014 deluge was a political gimmick to secure votes in the Valley.
The JKPCC Chief said the Congress had projected a demand of Rs 9 lakh for fully-damaged houses, Rs 6 lakh for severely- damaged and Rs 3 lakh for partially-damaged houses to the Centre, but the PDP-led coalition let down the flood-victims and triggered a sense of insecurity leaving them "humiliated".
Mir also expressed his anguish over leaving out of the package a huge number of people who were affected by the floods but were provided a paltry a sum.
He said for the Uttarakhand tragedy, the UPA government had provided Rs 8 lakh to fully-damaged houses, Rs 6 lakh to severely damaged and Rs 3 lakh for partially damaged houses, but the package announced today for the state was a "complete deception" and he termed it as a jugglery of words by the finance minister.
Mir said following the earthquake in 2005 the Congress- led government in Jammu and Kashmir had provided Rs 2.50 lakh to every household affected and also given every facility required by the people.
