Cong Kisan cell disrupts state briefing on Modi's Japan visit

Soon after Gujarat's Principal Secretary (Industries) Maheshwar Sahu began briefing the media on highlights of chief minister's Japan tour, the Congress farmers' wing members began shouting "Provide electricity, fertiliser and water".

Following the protests, the media briefing was stopped and journalists were asked to walk out of the venue.

"Why can't the Modi government, which claims to have a power-surplus state, provide electricity to the needy farmers, when there are no rains," Dipti Patel, member of the Kisan Congress cell alleged.

"He should first take care of Gujarat and then visit countries like Japan," she said.

"The government is not releasing water in the Kheda district, despite its availability," alleged Burra Singh Solanki, who claimed to be a former party secretary.

Despite the repeated appeals of state officials to calm down, members of Kisan cell continued with their agitation and shouted anti-Modi slogans.

They displayed banners reading "Modi is anti-farmer CM no 1", to protest against the alleged inept handling of the situation arising in the wake of deficient rains in the state.

Later, private security guards took them outside the hall.

A 32-member state delegation, led by Gujarat CM visited Japan on the invitation of the Japan government. It was accompanied by a business delegation, including heads of corporate houses like Zydus Cadilla, Torrent, Reliance, Moser Baer among others.
