Congress today likened the 'Vijay Sankalp' rallies by BJP in Goa to the 'India Shining' campaign, launched by the saffron party in run-up to the 2004 general elections, predicting a "similar collapse" for it.
"BJP's 'Vijay Sankalp' rallies held across the state are like those of 'India Shining' campaign launched by them in 2004. The current 'Vijay Sankalp' will collapse like 'India Shining' as ground reality is different as against the super imagination and projection by BJP," said Congress Secretary Girish Chodankar during party's padyatra.
Chodankar claimed that Goa is going through massive anti-incumbency factor with people "feeling cheated" by BJP-led state government which had come to power riding on several promises.
BJP has been holding Vijay Sankalp rallies every weekend which are usually addressed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Chodankar said Congress decided to launch padyatra from November 29 to get closer to the people and have more ground connect with the masses.
The party leaders have decided to walk on foot for 266 kms during 14 days.
The padyatra which had been launched five days ago from Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar's Mandrem Constituency, has seen many party leaders and worker walking together along with their supporters.
"The yatra has used slogan of 'Clean Goa, Clean Governance' and has been getting good support. So far they have completed around 120 km in six days covering12 assembly segments," Congress Goa Chief Luizinho Faleiro said.
Faleiro said it is the party's duty to expose the "wrongdoings and false promises" of this government which has "betrayed" the Goans.
He said if Congress comes to power, it will reverse all "anti-people policies" of this government including reversing water and electricity bills.
