BJP President Rajnath Singh today criticised Congress for "misleading" people by calling his party "divisive" and said it was doing it to hide its misdeeds.
"Congress is making such allegations to hide its own misdeeds as is evident for the 1983 Nellie massacre in Assam when so many thousands of people were killed in 24 hours. Let me ask Congress -- who was ruling the state then," Singh said at an election rally here.
"BJP does not believe in the politics of division and there has been no riots in BJP-ruled states of Rajasthan, Chhaitisgarh, Goa and Madhya Pradesh," he said.
"Congress is misguiding the people against our Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi even after the SIT and Supreme Court have given a clean chit to him," he said.
"In fact, Mahatma Gandhi had said that Congress should be disbanded after Independence, but the party did not pay heed to the sentiments of the Father of the Nation," he said.
Recalling former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's foreign policy, Singh said it was due to his diplomatic skill that China agreed to recognise Sikkim as a part of India which it had refused since its annexation in 1975.
"Now, the country's foreign policy is very weak with countries like China, Pakistan and even Maldives threatening India on minor issues," Singh said.
