Cong MLAs end 'dharna' in Raj House over controversial bill

Opposition Congress MLAs today ended their protest inside the Rajasthan Assembly by submitting a memorandum to the Governor, seeking the withdrawal of a bill that intends to protect judges and public servants from investigation without the state government's prior sanction.
They also sought a complete farm loan waiver from the Rajasthan government.
The protesting legislators had gone on a 'dharna' on Monday inside the Well of the House against the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill and called it off after today's session was adjourned sine die.
The Congress MLAs, who were in the Well, appeared with placards when a Bill to provide reservation to Gujjars and four other communities was tabled.

They opposed it shouting slogans and alleged that the BJP was misleading Gujjars.
When their protest intensified, the opposition and the ruling party exchanged barbs at each other.

Rajasthan Parliamentary Affair Minister Rajendra Rathore questioned the opposition on whether they were against the OBC reservation or dishonouring the Gujjar community.
The debate on the Rajasthan Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions in the State and of Appointment and Posts in Services under the State) Bill, 2017, was held amid an uproar by the opposition.
The House passed the Bill with a voice note and was adjourned sine die.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje along with other BJP ministers met the protesting Congress MLAs.
In their memorandum to Governor Kalyan Singh, they also alleged that the BJP was not on serious on the issues of farmers, including crop damage compensation, power supply, seeds and fertilisers.
