Congress MLAs today held protests at the Assembly complex asking the BJP-led Gujarat government to "stop spreading lies about the state" outside.
Congress legislators raised slogans against the government and prayed before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located in the Assembly complex over the issue.
"The state government gives half-truths and incomplete answers to questions asked in the state Assembly. Their responses are filled with anti-Centre rhetoric. On top of that, it spreads lies about Gujarat outside the state," Leader of Opposition in Assembly Shankarsinh Vaghela told reporters here.
"Despite spending crores of rupees on organising six Vibrant Gujarat summits, the state is fifth among all the states in the country in attracting foreign investments and has drawn only Rs 36,913 crore in foreign investments in the last decade," he said.
"Maharashtra, despite not organising any Vibrant Summits, is the number one state in luring foreign investments and has attracted foreign investments to the tune of Rs 2,54,624 crore," Vaghela added.
There are close to 10 lakh farmers without electricity connections in the state, he said pointing out that the state was at tenth position in the agriculture sector.
57 per cent of children and women in the state were malnourished and instead of addressing the issue, the state justifies malnutrition among women by stating that they were being beauty-conscious and want to remain slim, he said.
Hitting out at Chief Minister Narendra Modi over his statement at the recent India Today Conclave that there are no poor in Gujarat and poor from other states are coming to Gujarat, the Congress leader said that if this was the case, the government should bring a white paper on the number of poor from other states residing in Gujarat.
