Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Ashok Chavan today said the party will contest the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for November 1 on its own.
"We have decided that we will contest the Kolhapur civic polls on our own and have almost finalised the list of candidates," Chavan told PTI after the Parliamentary Board meeting held to discuss the party's preparations for the civic polls.
"But discussions are on with the NCP for a pre-poll alliance for Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC). We held discussions on the party's strategy for the upcoming polls and which wards can be given to NCP in the seat sharing," he said.
Congress is in power in the 81-member Kolhapur civic body, while in KDMC, Sena-BJP is the ruling alliance.
In Kolhapur, NCP has already announced an alliance with Jansurajya Shakti Party, while BJP has joined hands with a local outfit Tararani Front.
