The Congress today demanded the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his home minister over the deaths of six farmers in Mandsaur in police firing.
Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi dubbed the BJP governments at the Centre and state as "Band, Baaja, Bullet" regimes that responded to protesting farmers with bullets instead of providing them remunerative prices for their produce.
Accusing BJP's state and central governments of being "insensitive" towards farmers and their plight, she said this is the reason why farmers were agitating in states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
"The policy of the BJP governments at the Centre and in states is clear that if the farmers demand remunerative prices for their produce then they will get bullets in return. If you demand the price of your labour, you are labelled as criminals," she said.
"We have seen what 'Hitler-shahi' is and what a 'tyrant' government is in Madhya Pradesh after it treated farmers in such a manner," she said.
She said the BJP governments in MP and the Centre just loudly tout their achievements, imposing various bans and firing bullets at protesting farmers.
AICC Secretary Jeetu Patwari said, "Will Chief minister Shivraj Chouhan and his home minister resign for killing his own God, as he claims that the farmer is his God".
"The Shivraj Singh government stands totally exposed. Will the BJP government at the Centre take any action on them for police firing on farmers?" Patwari asked, demanding the resignations of both the chief minister and his home minister.
He also said that a case of murder must be registered in the Mandsaur firing in which six farmers were killed and the chief minister and state home minister have lost the moral right to be in their posts.
Both Congress leaders accused the state government of seeking to mislead people over the past three days by initially denying that farmers were killed in police firing in Mandsaur and admitting later that police had indulged in firing on the agitating farmers.
"They first denied firing by police and later admitted. It clearly shows insensitivity of the state government for which the CM should resign," Chaturvedi said.
She said to divert the public attention from the issue, the BJP is spreading canards by floating two undated videos of Congress leaders on social media.
The Congress leader said the authenticity or timing of the videos are not confirmed as the one of Congress MLA Shakuntala is of an incident 600 kms away from Mandsaur and that of Jeetu Patwari is shown in parts.
