A 10-member team of Bengal Congress, led by Katwa MLA Rabindranath Chatterjee, visited tea gardens in the Raiganj area of North 24-Parganas district to assess the condition of labourers who were distressed after many of the gardens closed down.
Congress leader Manoj Chakraborty said that it was getting difficult for the tea garden workers to make both ends meet and the state government was not helping.
"Spending even one day for them is getting difficult now as they don't have food or proper housing. The tea gardens are getting closed and the government is not making effort to reopen them," he said.
