Acting on a tip-off that the truck driver ran away without paying Rs 1,500 for diesel re-fill in his vehicle, two constables chased the truck on their motorcycle last night near Banmore town in the district, Civil Lines police station in-charge Yogendra Singh Jadoun said.
As the two policemen tried to overtake the truck, its driver ran the vehicle over them, killing constable Atibal Singh Chouhan (40) on the spot, he said.
The truck driver escaped from the spot after the incident, leaving behind the vehicle. A search has been launched to trace him, Jadoun said.
Meanwhile, police impounded the truck and registered a case in this regard, he added.
