National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) is a key consultant to the state government for IT related projects.
The project, costing Rs 60 lakh, has been submitted to the Irrigation and Flood Control department for approval, an official spokesman said after the 26th executive committee meeting, chaired by Director NIELIT A H Moon, at its Rangreth Center here.
NIELIT, would develop the hi-tech system to record water levels in river Jhelum, a development that will replace decades of manual monitoring, the spokesman said.
The centre which is into specialised IT-training, Research and Development proposes to develop the "Smart River Monitoring using Wireless Sensor Networks", the spokesman said.
The NIELIT center recently developed software for the Indra Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme to benefit over 30,000 beneficiaries in issuance of hassle-free pension.
