Control incidents of communal, caste hatred: CPI(M) to Centre

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury today said the Centre should own up responsibility to curb incidents emanating out of "communal sentiments and caste-based hatred", as he expressed concerns over burning alive of two Dalit children allegedly by some persons from upper caste in Haryana's Faridabad.
"The kind of violence spreading in the country... somewhere it is due to communal sentiments, somewhere there is social exploitation based on caste. It is the responsibility of Centre to control all these things," Yechury told reporters here.
Underlining that though law and order is responsibility of state governments, he insisted Centre must play its role in cases of violence involving Dalits, adivasis and women are concerned.

Yechury made the remark after his meeting with officials of Election Commission (EC) with whom he raised concerns about poor visibility of the Left party's election symbol on EVMs. The EC, he said, assured to carry bolder symbol on EVMs in future for better visibility to voters.
Two children of a Dalit family were today burnt alive and their parents suffered injuries allegedly after some persons from upper caste set their house afire while they were sleeping.
The shocking incident occurred at around 2.30 AM at Sunped village on the outskirts of Delhi, police said, adding two persons have been arrested.

Police have arrested two persons while 11 persons including a father-son duo have been booked on murder, rioting and other charges.
