The five accused - inspector in Mumbai Ashok S Sapkal, his wife Vaishali Sapkal, advocate Rajkumar M Unhale and two other persons Jitesh V More and Ramakant M Mahale - allegedly promised Kalwa resident Chunilal Dayalal Faria of getting his 23 acre land in Kalyan converted into a non-agricultural land, Rabodi police station's inspector G S Gambhire said.
They also promised to get the land developed if Faria gave them money.
The accused persons allegedly took Rs 2.70 crores from Faria and gave him a fake receipt and also sold the land, costing around Rs 6.44 crores, to some other person, as per the complaint filed by Faria.
No arrest has been made so far in this connection, he said adding that further action would be taken after a thorough probe in the case.
