A 23-year-old police constable, booked for having an "affair" with a married woman, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train near Moula Ali railway station here, police said today.
K Sandip Kumar was apparently under depression after a local TV channel "widely highlighted" his alleged affair with the woman, they said.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) received information from railway officials in the early hours today that abody of a man was found on tracks near the station, following which a GRP team was dispatched. After reaching the spot, they identified the body to be of Sandip, a GRP official said.
On January 29, the woman's husband lodged a complaint with RGIA Police accusing Kumar, who joined the police force as a constable in 2014 at Moghalpura police station, of contacting his wife over social media and developing an "illicit" relationship with her.
"Following the complaint, a case was registered against Sandip Kumar under relevant sections of the IPC and he was subsequently attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) Headquarters in Petlaburj here," said Moghalpura Police Station Inspector R Devendar.
Kumar was under "depression" after a local TV channel repeatedly showed report on his alleged affair," he said.
