Constable Ghulam Hassan Sheikh was on road opening duty and unarmed when militants shot at him from close range, a police official said.
The cop was hit in the neck, he said.
"Militants opened fire near the bus stand in Anantnag town in which constable Ghulam Hassan Sheikh and Samit Kour, a woman from Chattisinghpora, were injured," a police spokesman said.
He said the injured were shifted to a hospital for specialised treatment.
The militants took advantage of the busy market and fled from the spot, the spokesman said.
The police has registered a case in this regard and started investigation.
