Raids were conducted at several places in Delhi and neighbouring Faridabad to track down the sixth accused in the suspected gang war case in south Delhi in which one property dealer was killed, but the accused managed to evade arrest.
Police today raided several places in south-east Delhi including Tigri village, Sangam Vihar, the border areas of Badarpur, and a few locations at Faridabad. However, they failed to net the accused, Anup, who was driving the SUV, said a police official.
Meanwhile, CCTV grabs obtained from a camera at S Block in Greater Kailash I has revealed that Anup was last seen in the area between 8.30 AM and 9 AM, raising suspicions that he had taken shelter in a nearby building.
The SUV, in which the group of assailants had approached the victim, gangster-turned-property dealer Raju Ramakant Rao, turned out to be registered in the name of one Vasant Mehto, a resident of Lakarpur in Faridabad.
However, Mehto is yet to be questioned by the police, said the official.
One of Raju's associates also mentioned that the gang was heading towards south-east Delhi after collecting Rs 6 lakh from a property consultant.
But the bag containing the cash was not found at the spot. Neither have the accused person so far confessed to have stolen the money, raising suspicion that the bag was allegedly stolen by one of Raju's own associates, who fled from the scene during the gunfire, said the official.
"Several teams are looking for the absconding assailant, Anup. We have been conducting raids based on tip-offs about his potential whereabouts. He will be tracked down soon," said DCP (South-East) Mandeep Singh Randhawa.
On the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday, 32-year-old property dealer Raju Ramakant Rao was allegedly shot dead by six assailants at an intersection in south-east Delhi's BRT corridor.
