Party spokesperson R P N Singh told reporters that Kher was a good actor who had given some immense performances on TV as well as on big screen.
"But you and I and the country knows why he has been made the chairman of the FTII...," he said.
He expressed hope that Kher would try to bring about changes for the betterment of the institute.
On the question of Supreme Court's judgement on child marriages, Singh said it supported the verdict.
"You know that child marriages are banned in India and that is something that is the letter of the law and as individuals we should follow it," he said.
To another question on the Supreme Court banning sale of crackers in Delhi, he said the government should find out a way and take a decision while taking everyone along. It should take into account the religious feelings of people as well as adhere to the court judgement, he said.
