Couple booked for duping man of over Rs 9 lakh

The police today booked a travel agent couple for allegedly duping a man of Rs 9.5 lakh on the pretext of sending his relative to Canada.
The complainant, Surjit Singh, told the police that the duo had made a deal with him for Rs 25 lakh for sending his nephew abroad, they said.
Rs 9.5 lakh and passport were given to them, they said.
Neither was the nephew was sent to Canada nor the amount or his passport returned, alleged the complainant.
A case under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the IPC and Section 24 of the Immigration Act was registered against the couple, the police said.
