A local court today turned down the bail plea of a young fashion designer, who was the alleged masterminded in the abduction of a Ludhiana-based industrialist for Rs 5 crore ransom at Doraha.
Additional Sessions Judge H S Grewal refused bail to 23-year-old Deepali Bassi, jailed for her involvement in abduction of Manish Bharara on July 13, on the ground that she could tamper, damage and influence evidence if she was granted bail.
According to the FIR lodged at Doraha police station on July 14 about the incident, the kidnappers were in police uniforms and intercepted Manish's BMW car on July 13 evening when he was returning home.
26-year-old Manish and his driver were both taken away in another car to unknown destination by the accused.
The alleged kidnappers had succeeded in getting a ransom of Rs 5 crore from the family, but were chased and nabbed by police along with the money near Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
All the nine alleged kidnappers, including Bassi, are in jail.
Bassi later told police during questioning that the whole incident had been planned and executed by her for arranging financial assistance to her friend Guru Arpan Singh, a shopkeeper, who was passing through financial problem.
She said she knew that Manish's family would pay the huge amount of ransom, the public prosecutor told the court.
Manish resides in the Sarabha Nagar locality of Ludhiana with his family and runs an industrial unit manufacturing power transformers and other electronic equipment.
