CPI(M) calls for protection of working class in J&K

Claiming that there was violation of labour laws in Jammu and Kashmir, CPI(M) today underscored the need for strict implementation of regulations guaranteeing protection of 'unprotected' working class in the state.
"There seems to be a systematic and routine violation of labour laws in J&K. There is a need for strict implementation of regulations guaranteeing protection to the 'unprotected' working class in the state," CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said.
Speaking on the grants of Social Welfare Department in Legislative Assembly, he expressed dismay over the Centre's decision to cut allocations in Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) by more than half from Rs 18,108 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 8,245.77 crore.

"This is nothing but open attack on poor and most malnourished section of our population," he said.
Tarigami also demanded immediate steps to be taken to increase honorarium to Anganwadi workers and helpers at par with Haryana Government and covering them under pension, gratuity and other social security benefits.
While participating in the debate on demands for grants on Labour and Employment in the Assembly, the CPI(M) leader rued that the working class have been living under pathetic conditions and are even denied minimum rights guaranteed under various statutes.
He demanded that the Provident Fund (PF) be streamlined, smart cards issued and accounts of workers made online, adding that assurances were made earlier also for resolving these issues but nothing substantial has been done so far and urged that entire PF organisation be brought under the purview of Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA).
