Targeting BJP over derogatory comment made by its UP Vice President Dayashankar Singh against BSP chief Mayawati, CPI(M) today said his removal from party posts was "no punishment" and sought action under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury also said Singh's remark reflected "underlying" thinking of the BJP-RSS combine.
"In the RSS-BJP scheme, Dalits have no place in society, irrespective of what our Constitution says. They didn't even spare a Dalit ex-CM. The SC/ST Atrocities Act is clear on such vile utterances. Removal from a post is no punishment. Law must take its course," Yechury tweeted.
Singh stoked a major row by making derogatory remarks that drew severe condemnation from parties. BJP later sacked him from all party posts.
