When all political leaders were talking about Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee's "silence" regarding him was surprising, CPI (M) said today while asserting that its aim was to keep BJP's prime ministerial candidate out of power.
"We want to know why Mamata Banerjee is silent on Modi. Every political leader is either saying good or bad (things) about Modi. But, surprisingly, Mamata is silent. We want to know why she is silent on Modi," CPI(M) leader Gautam Deb said at a press conference here.
"A few days ago, Congress minister Jairam Ramesh had accused Trinamool Congress of having a tacit understanding with BJP, but TMC didn't react to it (the allegation).
"Earlier, they used to react to every dig by Congress; surprisingly, they have remained mum (on Ramesh's remark)," Deb, a CPI(M) central committee member, said.
Deb also said that the Left parties would work to keep Modi out of power.
"We (the Left) will work to keep Modi at bay. We will also be organising a huge rally in New Delhi," he said.
Accusing the West Bengal chief minister of misusing state funds by doling out money to local clubs, Deb said that Mamata had failed to take up any housing projects, which had allegedly helped private players to increase real estate prices in Kolkata.
"Mamata is wasting state finances by giving out money to local clubs and organising functions. She has not taken up any new housing project in the last two years," Deb said.
He said that when it had been in power, the Left Front government had taken up various housing projects to enable the lower and middle-income groups to buy flats at affordable rates.
Deb also said that along with CPI(M) leaders, he would march to Nabanna, the new state secretariat building, to register a protest against rising political violence in West Bengal.
