CPI(M) seek PM's intervention to set up IIT, IIM in Kashmir

The CPI(M) today sought personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishment of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in the Kashmir Valley.
"I would like to request for your personal intervention for establishing IIT, IIM and an IIMC in Kashmir Valley," CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami said in a letter to Modi.
"We welcome the establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu and in Kashmir Valley. This will surely give a boost to the existing healthcare infrastructure in J&K," Tarigami said.
However, in order to ensure an equitable progress in the state, there is a dire need for establishment of IIT, IIM and IIMC in Kashmir Valley as well, he added.

"This is important not only to dispel the perception of discrimination but to facilitate smooth industrial growth by producing highly qualified technical and managerial personnel as well as the requisite Research and Development environment in the state," the CPI(M) leader said.
"Initiatives encompassing a holistic developmental agenda towards socio-economic prosperity mainly focussing on the unemployment problem in regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir have become imperative," he added.
"However, there should be no regional imbalance or inequality in the developmental initiatives and infrastructure building as is being perceived by a large section in Kashmir Valley," he added.
