CPI protest against sand quarrying

Veteran CPI leader R Nallakannu and members of the Cauvery River Protection movement today held a fast here to protest against sand quarrying in the river in this district.
They said the flow of water in the river had been already affected due to indiscriminate mining of sand causing deep pits in the bed.
The mining was being done using heavy machinery and flouting rules and guidelines, they said.
