Officials said S B Nayak (45) fired three bullets from his AK-47 rifle at his camp in Jaffarpur Kalan.
The immediate reasons for the trooper to take such an extreme step are yet to be ascertained, they said.
Nayak belonged to the 200th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and hailed from Odisha.
