Norwegian Cruise Line reported that the power was cut briefly to its ship Norwegian Dawn, which affected the boat's propulsion as it left King's Wharf in the British island territory.
The ship, which was bound for Boston, was carrying 2,675 passengers and more than 1,000 crew members, US media reported.
"All guests and crew are safe. The ship has full power and onboard services continue as scheduled," the company said yesterday.
"The ship's team is currently assessing the situation and we will provide more information as it becomes available."
One passenger told ABC television affiliate WCVB that the crew said the boat would not move for some time.
A post on a popular cruise message board reported that captain said the ship would not move until at least the morning, according to USA Today.
The newspaper said that the ship was more than a decade old and was already known to have suffered several electrical hiccups, most notably in 2009 and 2013.
The 92-ton ship measures nearly 965 feet (300 metres) long.
