CVC asks HRD Ministry to have anti-graft lessons in text books

The Central Vigilance Commission has asked Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry to include lessons on anti-corruption in text books so that school children can be made aware about the detrimental effect of graft.
The Commission has taken up the matter with the Ministry and an exercise is underway to include contents related to integrity and ethics in students text books.
"We aim to consistently engage the children through their curriculum on the issue of corruption and its detrimental effects. For this purpose, we have initiated a dialogue with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, for evaluating and suggesting changes in the existing content on integrity and ethics in the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) text books.

"Bringing awareness among children, the future leaders and acquainting and empowering them will surely transform India and make it corruption free," Central Vigilance Commissioner K V Chowdary said today.
A team of representative from the CVC, HRD Ministry, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and NCERT are said to be working out the necessary modalities.
The existing content on integrity and ethics in text books has been reviewed and it has been found that they carry less or no information on the harmful effect of the corruption, especially in the present context, a senior CVC official said.
He said the plan is to have anti-corruption related contents for students upto Class X.

"The HRD Ministry is working in close coordination with the CVC and very soon a draft will be ready," the official said.
