According to an official release, the police also warned against citizens taking the law into their own hands to check transportation or sale of cows or calves.
After 33 years, Ganesh festival and Bakrid would be coinciding this year. While the Ganesh festival starts on September 17 and concludes on September 27, the Bakrid falls on September 24.
The commissioner informed that the Director General of Police had instructed all the District Superintendents of police to prevent sale of cows and calves on September 24, and also set up check-posts on borders of districts to prevent traffic of these animals.
Over 150 Hindu "elders" and 250 Muslim "elders" alongwith all the officers of the rank of ACP and above attended the two meetings yesterday, the police release said.
The south zone police in Hyderabad city too made an appeal to the Muslim community not to break the law prohibiting slaughter of cows and buffaloes.
