The former Talking Heads bandleader penned a new musical called "Saint Joan", which gives a modern take on the 15th century heroine, reported Guardian.
Byrne explained his desire to take on Joan of Arc in an email to fans which read, "Why has this story endured over centuries and been made into so many plays and movies?
"Because it's about someone - a nobody, a teenage girl - who inspired others to act, to overthrow their oppressors and take charge of their lives. She transforms from an innocent, into an androgynous warrior, and finally a martyr.
Byrne also noted the production will contain "very little spoken text" with "anthemic and spiritual music".
"Saint Joan" is slated to open on Valentine's Day, 2017 at New York City's Public Theater.
