The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notice to Delhi government's Director of Higher Education, asking why the accused in an alleged abetment to suicide case was reinstated on the same post of principal even though the case is under trial.
"The Commission has received a complaint from the husband of late Pavitra Bhardwaj and has alleged abetment to suicide of his wife by GK Arora, the principal of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Delhi University.
"The complainant has stated that the accused was suspended from the college following filing of the criminal case against him. However, the accused has recently been reinstated on the same post even though the case is under trial," said DCW in its notice.
Further, the complainant has alleged that since his re-joining, the accused has reconstituted the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the college even before the expiry of the tenure of the already existing ICC and is creating "undue pressure" on the witness in the case.
The complainant has further stated that the ICC, which has been changed, was the one which had ruled against Arora initially, following which he was suspended.
"I met the complainant in my office and the incidents reported by him are extremely disturbing. In this regard, please provide the following information--reasons for the initial suspension of the accused GK Arora, reasons for recently re-instating the accused, Arora on the same post of Principal, details of the previous ICC including its tenure. details of the new ICC and reasons for reconstituting the said ICC before expiry of its tenure," said the DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal in the notice.
The Commission has asked the Director to provide the information to the commission within seven days.
