The 180-km-long Delhi-Alwar rapid rail project will reduce the travel time by half between the two cities and is estimated to cost over Rs 37,000 crore, a senior NCRTC official said today.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is a joint venture of the Centre and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
It is an executing agency of the Delhi-Rewari-Alwar Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) project, which will enable the passengers to cover the distance of around 180 km between Delhi and Alwar in 104 minutues. At present, it takes around four hours travel by road.
The project will not require acquisition of land as it would have only underground and elevated sections with 19 stations, NCRTC MD V K Singh said, during a presentation of the project to the stakeholders.
The project will have a design speed of 180 kmph, the operating speed of 160 kmph and an average speed of 105 kmph, he added.
Singh said the first 56 kms, between ISBT Kashmere Gate in Delhi to Cyber City in Haryana, will have nine underground stations, while the remaining stretch of 124.50 kms would have 10 elevated stations.
The NCRTC plans to get the nod for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the National Capital Regional Planning Board (NCRPB) in next two months and by the governments of Delhi, Hayrana and Rajasthan in another three months, the NCRTC MD said.
The trains, to run between Delhi-Alwar, would have six coaches to begin with and each will have the capacity to carry a total of 1,154 passengers.
Urban Development Additional Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra, who was also present, suggested the NCRTC to consider including more station on the stretch.
The RRTS project would have stations at the ISBT Kashmere Gate-New Delhi Railway Station-Sarai Kalekhan-INA-Dhaula Kuan-Mahipalpur-Cyber City-IFFCO Chowk-Kherki Daula (all underground)-Manesar-Panchgaon-Dhauruhera-BTK-MBIR-Rewari- Bawal-SNB-Khairtal-Alwar (all elevated), an official release said.
