Delhi govt cancels 162 fake licences

Delhi government has cancelled 162 driving licences which were obtained on the basis of fake documents.
Submission of fake documents was the route followed by Uber cabbie Shiv Kumar Yadav, who has been accused of raping a 27-year-old woman in his taxi, to secure the licence under which he was operating in Delhi.
Yadav is said to have handed a fake character certificate from police to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to get an All India Permit for his car.
Regarding the 162 licences, the transport department said that the decision to cancel them was taken a few days back and it will now send the names of the owners of these fake licences to Delhi Police for further action.

"We have recently cancelled 162 Heavy Motor Vehicle Driving licences which were obtained by the holders on the basis of fake documents," a senior transport department official said in a statement here.
The official added that the move to cancel the licences came after officials detected forgery during verification.

"We have asked all departments/corporations/organisations/ PSUs concerned, who may have recruited drivers holding such licences on fake documents, to go for further appropriate action against them," the official also said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi today said that in the aftermath of the Uber rape case, police and the transport department are working together to frame a foolproof system which will ensure that no person with criminal antecedents gets a licence.

The 32-year-old Yadav has told police that he got the fake character certificate, issued in the name of an Additional DCP of Delhi Police, from a finance company agent.
The official whose signature appeared on the forged character certificate was posted to Mizoram about a year before the date mentioned on the fake document.
The investigation so far has revealed that Yadav had bought the car in which the crime took place after taking a loan from a finance company, which was provided on the grounds that he was the holder of an All-India Tourist Permit who could repay the loan by plying his car.
